I manage a hostel in Girdwood, AK. I recently set up an aqupanics system in the common room for the guests. I tried to make fun and educational. If I move to warmer climate I would like an outside system possibly like your Second Aquaponic Setup. Thanks for the good info and detailed pics.

I have had to cut my marigolds down due to spider infestation. The spiders have covered the plant with their web. I would like to know how I can kill the spiders without harming my plants.

you need to get one of those automatic sprinkler with and motion sensor I have one and they work great. once the get a blast or two the stop coming in

I appreciate all your comments and tips about gardens. I plant in a earth box, hardly any work and nothing to plant to scare off insects. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of animals that are digging under the porch? The animals are probably armadillos, the size of a cat. This happens in the early morning hours so no cats or dogs are involved. Do marigolds hinder them?

I have to agree about Travis Hughey’s barrel-ponics being my best resource. He has a ten growbed system which uses 8 blue barrels and an in-ground home-made tank. I’ve seen it work in person and it gives awesome growth results. That system is my next project before I try to produce enough to have extra veggies to sell. I plan on bartering any extra fish for things which I don’t intend to grow. You may have to make your stands for your growbeds out of metal in Florida but other than that his system should work fine since he is located in South Carolina. My dad gave me a recipe that I have not tried yet,
1 tablespoon of a mild detergent, 1 tablespoon of crude oil, 1 gallon of water, suppose to kill all insects and plants like this formula when sprayed in the evening.

I am new to vegetable gardens, this year I got tons of tomato plants because last year I was fighting with a squirrel for my tomatos and she always beat me to them!
I just saw a lot of aphids in my arugula?? I will follow some of this tips, they are great
